Our last fridge was very like this one and we bought it 10 years ago. It was an Omega. That was when Smeg and Omega were working together. The Omega fridge was pretty good. Lasted 10 years and then things started going wrong. This Smeg one, exactly the same size, even the shelves from the old Omega fit. Anyway. The Smeg one costs a load more than the Omega but doesn't really seem to be that much better. Which is a pity cos you'd like to think that fridges have improved over 10 years and that Smeg are somehow better quality than Omega. The good. The LCD screen is a bit better (still not great) and the water dispenser is more ergonomic. The fridge has an LED light inside so probably uses a bit less power but it still doesn't have a great energy rating. The bad. The milk fridge door is irritating. You have to press it hard to open and shut it hard for it to work and I don't think the mechanism will last. The handle on the milk compartment door on the Omega was not as sleek-looking but worked better. The main doors of the Smeg don't self-close. You swing them and you think they will close but they don't. The top shelf in the fridge is very poor designed. The stupid can cooler is at the back so you put anything on the shelf and you can't open the can cooler door. The water filter sticks out and is wasted space. Why? Why not have it external. Easier to replace anyway. The fridge broke down within a month after a powercut and we had to get a circuit board replaced. It's not really quiet. I don't hate it, it fits the fridge hole perfectly. It's got a water dispenser and an ice dispenser and a milk compartment. But I don't love it. Doesn't feel like the design has really improved over 10 years and I feel I should be getting more for my money.
