Definitely "quieter"
The external motor 1600 model is definitely a lot quieter. We went with this vs other brand of similar design, mainly because the rebate was a winner at this time. We have researched over 2 yrs and although there are more purchasers of this brand vs the other, the reviews were more of a "caveat lector". Our kitchen is part of the open space living room and if you have sensitive smoke detector, we find that this range hood exhaust the cooking fume/smoke etc out! Very happy with the purchase. Now we wait and see how the company back the warranty.
