Beware this model Samsung
I have no complaint about Appliances Online or delivery – superb service. However I am disappointed with the Samsung 43 Inch U8500F Crystal UHD 4K Smart TV (I am yet to connect the Panasonic PVR because I want to first get the TV fully sorted out). We wanted mainly free-to-air TV channels but the onscreen initial set up was hopeless. It was not a simple plug in and go like other TVs including the ChiQ mentioned below. With PC computer AI assistance I found an easy work around but I didn't expect to have to do that.
Next the picture quality. Compared to our 18 years old LG picture quality and that on the new ChiQ basic TV we bought at the same time from Appliances Online, the Samsung picture is shocking. Not sharp and has a sort of a foggy appearance (the screen protective film is removed) and generally lacks “richness” of colour. Very disappointing. I’ve tried adjustments but negligible difference.
Then the solar battery Smart remote control. This thing lacks numbers and symbols. Most frustrating to try and use. AI to the rescue again and for $8-50 (free delivery in less than 24 hours) I got an Amazon generic standard two AA battery Samsung- specific remote with numerals and normal arrows plus Samsung short cut buttons. Remote usage problem solved!
Finally, by checking the code I found the TV was manufactured 2½ years ago (2023)

Quality Samsung product.
Purchased as we have another tv of the same brand and this is a quality product and is very easy to set up and use. Picture quality is good and solar charged remote easy to ooerate. Would buy again.
