I have used this new mixer for a number of different applications and by and large have been absolutely delighted. I made my Mum's sponge cake recipe and found the whisk (which is actually a whisk within a whisk) super efficient as I whisked the egg whites. By the time I had finished adding the sugar I had a lovely glossy, voluminous mix. The folding tool also worked a treat. The sponges (a first time bake for me as until a few months ago I had thought the recipe lost) came out a treat and evoked many nostalgic memories with their unique taste. The whipped cream for the topping was a doddle. I recently made a sultana cake used the opportunity the try the creaming beater: Once again I was delighted with how quickly the Kenwood dealt with this task. The addition of the flours and sultanas was easily handled with the ubiquitous K beater. The dough hook delivered a smooth, almost silky textured dough but, this is the one area I won't be repeating: After the last session I found metal filings sitting on top of the plastic disc above the hook. That is the reason for the 4 stars in both the overall rating, and build quality rating - if available I would have used a four and a half star rating. I had been using my Mum's old 1960's model Kenwood and perhaps the most striking difference is the quietness of this current model, there has also been over the intervening decades, a refinement to the ease of fitting the various mixing tools and it is very simple and effective. The finish easily wipes clean and the power cord cavity is a nice touch when it goes back into the cupboard. Overall the Kenwood is a delight to use, and its effective noticably reduces the duration of many processes and value for money at Applliances Online prices. Should this model prove even half as durable as Mum's old unit it will well and truly see me out!
